Dr. Brar was an internationally renowned Biotechnologist and a Rice Breeder. He also had a keen interest in teaching and encouraged students to pursue higher studies. After his untimely demise in 2020, the Khush Foundation established an award in his memory. Dr. Brar’s family, friends, and well-wishers donated substantially to establish the award. The first award was announced in 2021. A committee of international scientists evaluated the nominations and selected Dr. S. S. Banga as the first awardee. The award ceremony was held on August 17, 2022, at the Dr. Manmohan Singh Auditorium. Dr. Banga was selected as the first recipient. The award carried a plaque and a monetary award of Rs. 3 Lakh. Dr. Banga thanked the Foundation but graciously donated the award money back to the Foundation.
The Khush Foundation and Punjab Agricultural University also organized a two-day symposium on August 17-18 on the theme “ Transforming the Green Revolution Hub of India: Innovations in Crop Breeding, Resource Management and Policy” Distinguished scientists and students from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and from abroad attended the established the function. The next Annual Award Function of the Foundation is on March 21, 2023. A new award for the PAU Faculty has been established. It is called D.S. Brar Young Scientist Award
