G.S.Khush Institute of Genetics, Plant Breeding and Biotechnology

With the generous support of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has established the Center of Excellence for Research and Training, named the Gurdev Singh Khush Institute of Genetics, Plant Breeding and Biotechnology, in honor of PAU alumnus Dr. Gurdev S. Khush for his pioneering contributions to the Green Revolution. Dr. Renu Swarup, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, laid the foundation stone of the Institute on April 22, 2021.
The Gurdev Singh Khush Institute and Museum were inaugurated on October 16, 2023. Punjab’s Agriculture Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, officiated the ceremony. He praised Dr. Khush for his pivotal role in transforming the agricultural sector.
Dr. Khush stated that the new institute will focus on genomics and biotechnology to develop resilient, high-yielding crops. He hopes the museum will inspire future generations. The museum details his journey from Rurkee village to global recognition through his work at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the University of California, Davis (UC Davis).
